"Helena From The Wedding" directed by Joseph Infantolino

(**)

A film about 3 couples and 2 single friends, who travel to their cabin in the woods for New Year's. Everything is going on fine, until Helena, a young friend of theirs, whom is a model, arrives. The owner's of the house, a newly wed couple, begin to have problems after she is present, the wife notices her husband's attraction towards the young girl.

The film passes by fast, I do not know how. Nothing very special happens.. The characters are extremely boring.. There are a couple of funny sequences, but nothing very dramatic or intense. It's not a bad film, but definitely no my style. I wouldn't recommend it or watch it again.

What I would have done differently? It is easy to say... But probably I would've casted younger actors. It would be easier to relate to them.

I would love to hear another opinion on this.

Quote

"It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!" - Dolly Parton

Who is Dolly Parton? Sorry for my ignorance.. But I heard this quote on TV last night and I thought it was phenomenal! So, I decided to research who had said it. I didn't know about Dolly's existence until then.

She's an actress/singer/song-writer, famous for her country music.

"Onde as criancas do mundo dormem", by James Mollison

I saw this really interesting project the other day on my friend's facebook. And had to share it here.
James Mollison was born in Quenia in 1973, but grew up in England. He decided to build this project, translated: Where Children Sleep, so that children can start thinking of the inequality in this world.

The captions in the website are in Portuguese. But I think you will understand it all through the photograph itself.

It's interesting to see the difference in the rich and the poor children - and the expression in their faces.

Fish Tank, directed by Andrea Arnold

(*****)

Fish Tank is the story of a girl, Mia (Kate Jarvis), who is excluded from her family's and friend's life. She was kicked out from school, fought with her friends, and has constant fights with her [very young and alcoholic] mother daily. Mia lives in housing projects in Essex and her only true passion is dance. Until, her Mom brings home a new boyfriend, and Mia suddenly encounters her new obsession.

This film is absolutely beautiful. It has many P.O.V. (point-of-view) shots, lots of hand-held, in which you feel as if you are beside the character. The entire film is told through Mia's perspective. There is a beautiful shot where Connor, (Michael Fassbender, Mom's boyfriend), puts her to bed, and she pretends to be sleeping while he unties and removes her shoes, the shot is of what she's seeing, underneath her arm.

Besides the beautiful shots, and the intriguing story, this film also brought to me a lot of senses? I hope I'm explaining myself. There is a shot when Connor gets close to Mia so she can smell his new perfume, when she inhales, you can feel what she is feeling. If you know what I mean... Connor is the only one who understands and supports Mia.

The story is intense... Sad... Beautiful... Funny. And even though sometimes she is cruel, you love her, you defend her. Her character has a beautiful heart, even though those around her don't see it. She falls in love with a horse, whom she petted twice. But cries with the horse's death. She falls in love. She goes for what she wants.

It's slow in its way.. The pace is perfect. You get into the story and feel it.

You relate to the character, some how!

Her acting is PHENOMENAL! --- I heard she was discovered while fighting with her boyfriend at the train's platform!

The actress who plays her sister, Tyler (Rebecca Griffiths), is also unbelievably good!

This is the kind of film I wish I had done myself. There is so much more to it that I can't even write about it. It is UNIQUE, PROFOUND. There is NO film like it. You cry with Mia!

BEAUTIFULLY SHOT!!!

* It won the 2009 jury prize at Sundance.

"Photographs" by Charles Bukowski

Photographs

they photograph you on your porch
and on your couch
and standing in the courtyard
or leaning against your car

these photographers
women with big asses
which look better to you
than do their eyes or their souls

-this playing at author
it´s real Hemingway
James Joyce
stageshit

but look-
there are the books
you´ve written them
you haven´t been to Paris
but you´ve written all those books

there behind you
(and others not there,
lost or stolen)

all you´ve got to do
is look like Bukowski
for the cameras
but

you keep watching
those
astonishingly big asses
and thinking-
somebody else is getting
it

“look into my eyes,”
they say and click their cameras
and flash their cameras
and fondle their cameras

Hemingway used to box or go
fishing or to the bullfights
but after they leave
you jerk-off into the sheets
and take a hot bath

they never send the photos
like they promise to send the photos
and astonishingly big asses are
gone forever
and you´ve been a fine literary fellow-
now alive
dead soon enough
looking into and at their eyes and souls
and more.

(Bukowski, photographs, in: love is a dog from hell)
